If you haven't done it already, start LS09 for the first time. This will create a folder: "My Documents/My Games/FarmingSimulator2009/mods". Drop a downloaded mod (.zip) in this folder to install it.
After downloading your map, locate the game's install directory. (e.g. E:\Farming Simulator 2009). Then inside, open the folder "data/maps".

Installing mods for LS 2008 is a more complicated process since there is no dedicated "mods" folder. There are 2 types of mods for LS 2008: LSMI and Manual-install.
LSMI mods come in the .lsmi file format. LSMI is a simple mod utility created by Outlaw to simplify installing mods and can be downloaded here. LSMI mods are appropriately marked on the site, usually having (LSMI) in the name. To start installing a mod open LSMI, then drag and drop the .lsmi mod file into the window. Choose the savegame that you want the mod to be on and click install. Specify if you want to pay ingame cash for the mod. The program can then ask if you want to change the vehicle's coordinates - this process is optional but recommended. After clicking accept, the mod will be installed.
Manual-install mods are trickier and require to modify some of the game's files manually. After downloading the mod, open the archive and look for a readme.txt file which should have at the very least a careerVehicles.xml line. Locate the game's data directory. (e.g. E:\Farming Simulator 2008\data) Then drag the mod's folder so that it matches the game: mods are usually in "vehicles"; tractors in "steerable", tools in "tools" etc... Once this is done you can start editing careerVehicles.xml by inserting the mod's line in the xml properly. Sometimes vehicleTypes.xml has to be edited too, in which case a line for that should be provided by the mod's readme file.
This process is without a doubt confusing and may be difficult to follow. If you need help, refer to the video tutorial above. If you're sure you did everything correctly and the mod still doesn't work, you can seek help in our discord server.
Follow the instructions on installing a map for LS 2009 above - the process is the same.
When you upload a mod, it doesn't appear instantly because it needs to be verified by a moderator first. The time it takes for a mod to be verified is unpredictable and can range from seconds to days. Mods are rejected very rarely, and if your mod takes too long to verify you could ask about it on the discord server. Usually it just means that all moderators are busy.
That's not good! Open the mod's page (click the "View details" button), then click on "Report". Fill out the form and send it. Moderators will be alerted and replace the link with a working one ASAP.
Not every file host is good enough to function properly for this site. Some hosts delete files after a period of "inactivity" (like Sharemods). Some hosts are not very user friendly (like megaupload.nz or other ad ridden/slow hosts). Some like to rename their uploaded files (like Catbox or other pomf clones). All of these conditions need to be met to ensure good user experience and archival.
No, or not yet. Server space and bandwidth can get very expensive very fast, especially when it comes to a site like this. As much as i'd like to, i can't do that yet.
No, or not yet, for a reason very similar to the question above this one. I believe this will be possible only once i have enough server space and bandwidth. This website became way bigger than i ever imagined it will and started as a tiny fun project. Hosting files on 3rd party sites has its own issues, and if i want to get into mod archival for real i'd have to handle them properly instead of relying on my users for that.
